If you’re looking for an easy pet that doesn’t require too much time and effort, then a zebra finch is perfect. They are very social birds who enjoy their owner’s company but don’t need constant attention as other pets do.
Zebra finches are a very popular choice for beginners for this reason. However, many people considering buying a zebra finch as a pet have one burning question, ‘are zebra finches loud?’
Are Zebra Finches Loud?
No. Zebra finches are not loud at all. They are much quieter than canaries, and are actually among the quietest of all finches. Many are content to stay in a cage all day, making just a few quiet peeping sounds every now and then or singing sweet, soft melodies.
Males are generally slightly louder than their female counterparts, so if you are looking for a pet to sing you beautiful songs all day, it’s best to get one of the males. However, whether male or female they are not loud in any way and are probably among the quietest birds you can find.
Even if you had a pair of zebra finches, which I would recommend as they do better in pairs, you still wouldn’t need to worry about the noise bothering anyone. They are very peaceful and quiet birds.

Do Zebra Finches Talk?
No. Zebra finches do not talk, unlike most parrots. If you want a bird to train to talk, zebra finches are not for you. They are not known to be good at mimicry either, which is a talent some other birds have.
Some zebra finches are capable of making sounds that are quite close to human language, as some owners can attest to. However, this is very rare and even when they do seem to try and mimic words, they are never accurate.
If you are after a talking bird, a parrot or parakeet would be more suitable. If you are after a gentle and sweet bird, then a zebra finch may be the pet for you.
How Are They As Pets
They are lovely as pets and, as mentioned previously, will sing sweet songs to you but will not drive you crazy.
They like to be left alone somewhat so do not like to be petted in the way that another bird like a parrot would. For this reason, they are not the sort of bird you can train to do tricks.
Zebra finches are wonderful pets because they are so sweet, cuddly, and calm all rolled into one. They are quite shy around strangers, which means you should never leave unsupervised or
They are not as noisy or messy and are very easy to take care of. They are also the perfect size to fit into any home.
As with most small pet birds, it is best if you keep them in pairs.
